OpenOffice (AKA OpenOffice.org) is a free cross-platform Office Suite.
It is developed and released to the opensource community since 2000 with the intention of taking marketshare away from Microsoft Office.
OpenOffice is comprised of 6 applications.
- Writer
- Writer is OpenOffice's Word processor, and has the ability to export PDF files.
- Calc
- Also with the ability to export to PDF, Calc is a spreadsheet and graphing application much like Microsoft Excel.
- Impress
- This is the slideshow or presentation program. The PowerPoint equivalent.
- Base
- Base is a database program for JET, ODBC and many types of SQL.
- Draw
- Vector graphics program.
- Math
- Mathematical formulae program.
OpenOffice is a very comprehensive and complete office suite, so be prepared for the large download. I'm looking at about 142MB for the Windows version.
